Marvin's latest exeats...
In Room 2, we always ask, What would Marvin do? Marvin is helping us learn the Habits of Mind. He is a master of the Habits, and always knows the right thing to do. Marvin manages his impulsivity by thinking before he speaks, and he always remembers to sit still and put his hand up to answer a question. Marvin is always persistent in his learning, he tries and tries again until he meets his goal. He strives for accuracy by checking he is meeting all the Success Criteria.

Marvin loves the Magpies!

On Friday, Marvin went to watch the Magpies. The Magpies play Rugby. The Rugby was in town at McLean Park. The Magpies are a very good Rugby team in Hawke's Bay. The Magpies are very good because they work together and think interdependently. Marvin shouted "Come on the Bay!" Marvin wanted the Magpies to win, and he shouted "Yay" when they did!

Term 3 Kicks off!
Welcome to Term Three, 2011. I hope that you have all had a refreshing holiday filled with friends, family and lots of warmth! Marvin is certainly enjoying being back in the Hawkes Bay, with the snow on the ranges, and not underfoot!
This term, with the World Cup the Junior Team are looking at "Kiwis, Centre Stage!" The big picture question above this is ‘What is our place in the world?’ The Rockets will be learning about Ireland, as the Junior Syndicate has chosen certain countries to follow for the Rugby World Cup. Leprechauns are on the loose! Watch out!

Marvin's Holiday

Marvin's Malady
Marvin was a bit quiet earlier in the week. We weren't sure what was up with him. When he went home to Giulietta's house, she Listened with Understanding and Empathy to him when he told her about the pain in his arm. He was able to Communicate with Clarity and Precision when he asked him exactly where it was that it hurt. It turned out that he had a great big gaping hole in his bicep!
Nurse Whitney, Giulietta's Mum, focused on Striving for Accuracy during the surgery that she performed on him. We are so grateful! Marvin has fully recovered, and is once again fully engaged with his learning in Room 2 with the Rockets. Special thanks must go to the Whitney family for their care and attention, you guys rock!

Big Maggie
In the holidays, Marvin visited his cousin, Big Maggie. Big Maggie lives in Christchurch. She is the brainiest Elephant in the world, and uses the Habits of Mind to be successful in all areas of her life. We have written about how Marvin uses the Habits of Mind to be successful inside and outside the classroom. We gave examples of how he does this too. We would love you to come in and read them, and we will post some on our writing page.

Marvin Baryshnikov
Marvin continues to enjoy his week night exeats from Room 2. We love sharing his adventures the next day. He was able to give Emer a few tips on using the Habits to become a successful ballerina, as it turns out he has a famous cousin. Who knew?
Human Patterns
The Brainiaks and the Rockets used the Habits of Mind this morning when creating patterns. We showed that we were able to Think Interdependently, by working together in our groups to create patterns with our bodies. Marvin and Honey Bear were watching, filled with Wonderment and Awe. They also found humour in some moments! Can you tell what the rules for our patterns are?

Marvelous Marvin
Marvin, the marvelous Habits of Mind monkey (our mascot) is in residence already. We will all be learning together, using a variety of tools such as our fabulous Thinking Maps and the Habits of Mind. It will be fun learning to be independent, reflective and successful learners using these tools.
