Smartie Statistics

In the last two weeks we have been learning about Statistics. We have collected lots of different data. We have tallied what our favourite ice cream flavours are, and where we like to go on holiday. Most of the Rockets prefer to go on holiday to the city! It's exciting for country kids!

We were very excited on Thursday, when we all got our our mini packet of Smarties. It was hard work Managing our Impulsivity. We had to collect and share our data. We put the information that we collected on to a tally chart, and then a bar graph. The best part came at the end, however, when we got to eat our Smarties!

What is your favourite ice cream flavour?

Well done Rockets. Miss Revell must be very proud of your progress and the great work you have done on your Statistics unit. I would love to know what programme Miss Revell uses to make your lovely slideshows with your photos. Please can you ask her to share this with me. Have a great week.

Well done, Room 2 Rockets! Controlling impulsivity is great learning, and you even learnt maths at the same time!

Hello Room 2 Rockets,

Statistics is interesting as it gives us a way to find out what is and isn't popular. I can understand why you would have to control yourselves, I love Smarties too. :)

What is my favourite ice cream flavour? In my small town we have two ice cream parlours with many flavours. That's one of the advantages of being in a tourist town.

I like so many flavours and my most favoured can change but, at the moment, my favourite is...

Macadamia

Macadamias are Australian nuts found on large trees in northern NSW. The ice cream has a nutty flavour and bits of macadamia in it. There are orchards of these wonderful trees to keep us well supplied.

To crack the nuts, you could use a hammer but they have very hard shells and can fly off when hit if you aren't careful. It's best to use a nut press as you van wind down a press to slowly crack them.

Has anyone very tried macadamia nuts?
